Social Insurance & Conflict Resolution
Concept: Trust is quantifiable. Risks are shared. Conflicts are mediated humans, not algorithms.
1. Social Underwriting (The Trust Graph)
When a high-value asset (Car) is shared, the Lender can require Assurance (Escrow). Instead of buying corporate insurance, the Borrower crowdsources "Social Collateral."
The Staking Mechanism (Yield & Matching)
- Requirement: $5,000 Escrow.
- Yield Generation:
- Locked funds are not idle. They are converted to Yield-Bearing Assets (e.g., AAVE USDC, Staked ATOM).
- Incentive: Stakers earn yield during the loan period. "Backing Betty" pays interest.
- Platform Matching:
irl.coopTreasury may Match staked funds (e.g., 1:1 match up to $500) to lower the barrier for reliable members.- Condition: Matching funds are the first to be slashed if
irl.coopwants to absorb risk, or last if it wants to be conservative.
- The Stack:
- Borrower (Betty): Stakes $500.
- Group A (Swim Buddies): Stakes $1,000.
- Group B (Mutual Aid): Stakes $2,000.
- Friends: Stake remaining $1,500.
- Lock: All funds locked in a Namada Shielded Escrow contract.
- Outcome:
- Success: Car returned. Funds unlock + Reputation gain for all stakers.
- Failure: Car damaged. Funds paid to Lender. Stakers lose money (and Betty loses Reputation).
2. Conflict Resolution (The Human Circuit Breaker)
Who decides if the car is "damaged"?
The Mediation Clause
Every high-stakes transaction requires selecting a Mediator (or Jury) before the exchange happens.
- Options:
- Mutual Friend: A specific user trusted by both.
- Random Jury: 3 reputable users from the
irl.coopfederation (selected via Sortition). - Professional: A paid arbitrator group.
The Dispute Flow
- Claim: Lender reports "Car returned with dent."
- Freeze: The Escrow remains locked.
- Evidence: Lender uploads photos/statement to the "Case File" (Private Doc).
- Response: Betty replies.
- Ruling:
- Mediator reviews.
- Verdict: "Damage is real but minor. Pay $500 to Lender. Return $4,500 to Stakers."
- Execution: Lit PKP executes the split payment based on the Verdict.
3. Reputation & Fallout
- The "Credit Score" of Trust:
- If Betty defaults, her "Reliability" score drops.
- Her Stakers also take a minor hit (they vouched for a risky person).
- This incentivizes groups to only vouch for trustworthy members (Self-Policing).
Integration
- UI: In the "Trade" card, a "Vouch" button allows friends/groups to pledge funds instantly.
- Governance: Staking group funds ($1k from Swim Buddies) triggers a standard Governance Vote ("Back Betty?").
